Hotel guests and staff in the area of Puerto Morelos took shelter in nearby buildings on Thursday after a shooting broke out between suspected drug dealers on a Mexican beach. Two men were left dead as a result, but according to authorities no tourists or staff were seriously injured.
Guests were advised to shelter in place as the incident unfolded.
The Quintana Roo state prosecutor's office tweeted the violence was "between antagonistic groups of drug dealers."
