Jake Berry, Chairman of the Conservative Party, has told Sophy Ridge on Sunday he is "not sure" anyone at a post-budget "champagne reception" made money from the fall of the pound.

According to the Sunday Times, Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng "attended a private champagne reception hours after delivering his mini-budget, where hedge fund managers who would gain from a crash in the pound egged him on to commit to his plans".

Mr Berry, who was at the event, told Sky News: "Well, we often have drinks, receptions for donors in the Conservative Party.

"In fact, these people should be lauded because we don't have public funding of political parties."
