Newly released images show the aftermath of a violent undersea volcanic eruption off the coast of Tonga, depicting a scene of vast devastation.

Satellite images reveal shorelines battered by tsunami waves – and a thick blanket of ash covers nearly everything on Tonga’s main island of Tongatapu.

As Mike Armstrong reports, the damage from the devastating eruption extends far beyond what satellite images were able to capture.
