The CEOs of TikTok, Discord, Snap, Meta and X, testified before a U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday on online child sexual exploitation.
This comes after Sen. Dick Durbin, the Judiciary Committee's Democratic chairman said that while some tech companies had made changes to protect children from online predators, the efforts did not go far enough.
"It is clear that we need legislation because the tech industry has failed on its own to protect our kids," he said.
The Senate hearing will also be TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew's first appearance before Congress since March when the Chinese-owned company faced tough questions over the app's impact on children's mental health.
