Tens of thousands of Ethiopians rallied on Sunday to denounce the U.S. and other foreign nations and support Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government amid the ongoing conflict in the northern part of the country.
Some demonstrators criticized the U.S., which is among the foreign powers calling for a ceasefire as the year-long conflict intensified amid rebel advances last weekend. Others railed against the call by the U.S. for the government and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) to begin talks.
On Sunday, Global Affairs Canada said it was withdrawing family members of diplomats and non-essential staff from the country, and urging people to consider leaving the country if they can do so safely.
Ahmed's government has pledged to keep fighting, even as nine groups opposing the government formed an alliance this past Friday.
