A massive blast destroyed a restaurant in China's northern Hebei province on Wednesday, killing at least 2 people and injuring 26, according to state media and authorities.

"I heard a slam at the door and the bed was shaking. I thought it was an earthquake, and then I found out it was a blast," said an unidentified resident of Sanhe county, who was awoken by the impact.

The incident occurred despite the government's detailed guidelines on the use of gas appliances and cookers to prevent safety risks.
