'This is a huge opportunity' - Nikki Doucet on women's football breaking away from the FA

The Women's Super League (WSL) and Championship are preparing to break free from the FA after the top two tiers unanimously agreed to be governed by a new independent body from next season - NewCo - led by former Nike and Citigroup executive Nikki Doucet.

With commercial to business management experience, Ms Doucet will be bringing expertise from Citibank to Nike to try elevate both leagues to a new level.

She told Sky News: "Our mission for the new company is to build the most distinct, competitive and entertaining women's football club competition in the world for the fans and the players of today and tomorrow."
