Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi weighed in on Monday night on the controversy surrounding questions aimed at Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet regarding his support of Quebec's Bill 21 by federal debate moderator Shachi Kurl.

It was among the more heated moments from Canada's federal leader's debate when Kurl pressed the Bloc leader regarding his support for the controversial bill. Blanchet in turn accused Kurl of making racist insinuations of all Quebec residents.

"There’s no good in playing the race card," Nenshi told the panel on Global's Decision: Canada 2021 election night special on Monday evening.

Bill 21 bars some civil servants in positions of authority from wearing religious symbols or garb.
