Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is alleging India violated Canadian sovereignty, stating Canada has a “credible” potential link between agents of the government of India and the killing of Canadian citizen and prominent Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has called Trudeau’s allegation “absurd” and the diplomatic rift is only growing.

‘The West Block’ host Mercedes Stephenson speaks with Arif Lalani, former Canadian ambassador and Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy Distinguished Fellow, and Vina Nadjibulla, an international security specialist at the University of British Columbia whose advocacy helped secure the release of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, about what’s at stake if India-Canada relations deteriorate.

Plus, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reaffirmed Canada’s support for Ukraine during a whirlwind visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trudeau announced an additional $650 million in military aid over the next three years, bringing Canada’s total commitment so far to $2.4 billion. But the new pledge comes as the Canadian military is under pressure at home and tensions are building with India.

Stephenson speaks with Defence Minister Bill Blair about whether Canada’s military will see a funding boost and how the diplomatic rift with India is affecting the government’s Indo-Pacific strategy.
