As many as 9,346 children were either abandoned, orphaned or lost a parent to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court was told by The National Commission of Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), and these are just the reported figures till May 29. In Uttar Pradesh, 200 kids have lost both parents and another 1,800 children have lost one of them. Both the Centre and the Yogi Adityanath government have announced schemes for such children but is this enough? Alok Pandey explores.
