At least two people were killed and several others were wounded when a 14-year-old gunman opened fire inside a luxury mall in Thailand’s capital of Bangkok on Tuesday.

The teenage suspect was arrested following the shooting at the Siam Paragon Mall on Tuesday, police said. They added that he has a mental illness and he said he felt "someone talked to him to shoot someone."

Videos on social media showed scenes of chaos inside the mall with people, including children, rushing to exit the mall as security guards ushered them out.

“I want to see better security checks and systems to prevent this kind of thing,” said one Bangkok resident.

Gun violence is not uncommon in Thailand, though mass shootings are rare.
