Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, has bought Twitter in a blockbuster deal worth $44billion. In his press statement, Musk said free speech is the “bedrock of a functioning democracy,” and vowed to improve the social media platform by making algorithms open-source, tackling spam bots, and authenticating “all humans.”

But the news of Musk’s acquisition has many worried about what his plans might mean for Twitter, especially as he has signaled that he wants to reduce moderation on the platform. DW spoke to Kara Swisher, New York Times contributing writer and host of the podcasts “Sway” and “Pivot.” She has covered big tech and the internet for many years.
