Fake pornographic images of pop superstar Taylor Swift spread across social media this week, sounding the alarm about the rise of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Swift is one of the world's biggest pop stars, and this shows how anyone can be targeted. With the U.S. presidential election campaign in full swing and Canada's federal election on the horizon, there are calls for stronger laws to stop damaging deepfakes from being produced.

"It is alarming," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Friday.
