The Tamil Nadu police today arrested L Murugan, the state BJP chief, along with around 100 party workers for launching the "Vetri Vel Yatra" (Victorious Spear March), without police permission. The arrest was part of the administration's move to stop the party event. The state government had informed the Madras High Court on Thursday that the Yatra, planned from November 6 to December 6, won't be allowed given the COVID-19 situation in the state. The BJP had, however, asserted its right to hold the event starting from the Thiruttani Murugan Temple in Thiruvallur district, adjacent to Chennai.
