A sedition case has been filed against a Samajwadi Party MP for his recent remarks on the Taliban. Lok Sabha MP Shafiqur Barq had courted controversy when he said the Taliban "want to run their own country". Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya hit back, accusing the Samajwadi Party leader of resorting to "appeasement" and saying that his remarks are similar to that of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. The Uttar Pradesh polls are due next year, and for now, it seems the Taliban is a bigger issue than local problems.
