Taiwan eyes Chinese drones in South China Sea

Taiwan’s head of the Ocean Affairs Council said the country will “open fire” if they “need to open fire” when asked about the potential of a Chinese drone flying into their territorial waters. Beijing has conducted almost daily flyovers of the region, and no aircraft has entered “restricted” spaces of Taiwan. But the island of interest is a tiny strip of land where no civilians live that gets frequent visits from scientists conducting research. Now, numerous other countries are laying competing claims for other tiny islands in the South China Sea, where the US has been known to conduct naval drills with allies. Sourabh Gupta of the Institute for China-America Studies joins In Question to explain the ongoing tensions in the region.
