Animal activists in Russia’s Volgograd Region have saved a swan from a frozen lake. The bird, which had an injured leg and was very weak, is now recovering in a shelter, and its keepers are optimistic it will return to full strength. The poor creature is in mourning, however, because its mate, rescued only hours later, succumbed to her own injuries.
