In videos posted online, customers have rubbed saliva on dishes, licked chopsticks and touched sushi as it glides past.
"Conveyor belt sushi is something we are proud of as part of Japanese culture," a spokesman from Kura Sushi, the restaurant targeted by those arrested on Wednesday, said.
