Rishi Sunak says that "bringing our party and country together is the only way that we will over come the challenges we face".

He began a short statement by paying tribute to Liz Truss for her "dedicated public service" to the country under "exceptionally difficult circumstances".

Mr Sunak said that being elected PM is the "greatest privilege of his life".
