Sunak takes early lead in Tory leadership race

Eight of the candidates to be the next Prime Minister are through to the first round of voting, in the Conservative Leadership election.

The front runners, at this early stage, include the former Chancellor Rishi Sunak, who Sky understands already has the support of 45 MPs.

Penny Mordaunt currently has 27 MPs publicly backing her, with Liz Truss slightly behind with 21.
