The Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have been fighting for control of Sudan for almost a year.
UN warns of a dire displacement crisis with 20 percent of Sudan's population displaced internally and 1.5 million refugees abroad. Displaced children, like Mawada Babiker's sons, face disrupted education. UNHCR emphasizes urgent need for shelter, food, and medical aid, highlighting limited resources. Despite hopes of return, ongoing conflict prolongs the crisis for many Sudanese.

Al Jazeera’s Heba Morgan reports from Gedaref in eastern Sudan.
