'Stakeknife': Report finds British IRA mole saved few lives but cost many more

Freddie Scappaticci was a British spy working for the IRA who headed up the group's "nutting squad".

His unit was tasked with identifying informants.

For years it was claimed he had saved hundreds of lives with the information he passed on to British intelligence officers while working for the terrorist group.

But an official report into his activities has found the number of people he actually saved was in "high single or low double figures and nowhere near hundreds".
