Sri Lanka’s acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe has imposed a state of emergency as the country's parliament prepares to choose a successor to Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Rajapaksa fled overseas amid protests demanding his resignation, his party, the SLPP, has said it will back Wickremesinghe to take his place.
But the country's Bar Association has asked for the emergency order to be revoked - saying it suppresses freedom of expression and dissent.
Al Jazeera's Minelle Fernandez reports from Colombo, Sri Lanka.
