Facing an economic crisis, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa called for national unity as he addressed a new session of Parliament on Tuesday.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every country, but in Sri Lanka, a lack of foreign currency to pay for essential imports has many worried about a food shortage.
Opposition politicians called Rajapaksa's speech "empty" and many Sri Lankans hoping for firm plans on how the president intends to steer the nation through the crisis said they felt disappointed.
