Authorities in Sri Lanka are testing dead fish that have washed ashore after a fire on board a ship caused it to spill debris into the sea, creating one of the worst environmental disasters in its history.
The Singapore-registered MV X-Press Pearl had been carrying 25 tonnes of nitric acid, other toxic chemicals and several tonnes of plastic pellets.
Police have launched a criminal investigation into the fire and are preventing senior crew from leaving the country.
Al Jazeera’s Minelle Fernandez reports from Colombo, Sri Lanka.
