Soldiers equipped with assault rifles drove through a crowd of protestors in the capital Colombo on Tuesday night, sparking public outrage amid the country's increasing anti-government demonstrations. At a rally outside Parliament, a group of masked troops riding unmarked bikes through the crowd with assault rifles ploughed through the crowd, which included children, women, and the elderly. When the officials sought to stop them, the armed troops and the police got into a verbal brawl, forcing Army Chief Shavendra Silva to order an investigation.
