Sri Lanka beauty queen Pushpika De Silva was re-crowned on Tuesday after a controversy unfolded on national TV when the reigning Mrs. World Caroline Jurie took De Silva's crown off on Sunday, claiming she was ineligible to win the Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 title as she was divorced.

During the beauty pageant, Jurie was seen spending several moments struggling to remove the crown from De Silva's head, eventually succeeding and giving the crown to the runner-up. De Silva could be seen rushing off stage in tears.

Officials with the pageant said that there was no legal proof she is divorced and that De Silva has been re-crowned.

"There are lot of mistakes I have made in my life. My life went wrong in ways that I can't believe. But in all of these occasions, it is my parents who have given me strength," De Silva said in a press conference after being re-crowned.

De Silva has denied being divorced though acknowledged she is living apart from her partner for "personal reasons."
