The 'troubled teen industry' is the name given for the dozens of residential camps across the United States where parents send their children, at great expense, to address issues such as bad behaviour and depression.

Teenagers often arrive at the facilities in the dead of night, traumatised after being snatched from their beds by strangers, bundled into the back of a van and driven off.

The business is plagued by allegations and evidence of neglect and abuse.

One teenage girl, Taylor, collapsed and died at one academy in Utah last year, with her death remaining under investigation.
