The Spain soccer squad received a hero's welcome in Madrid early on Tuesday, after returning home to celebrate their FIFA Women's World Cup victory.

Thousands of excited Spanish fans celebrated with the newly-crowned national team after they secured the country's first Women’s World Cup title after beating England 1-0 in the finals.

Olga Carmona, the Spanish full-back and Cup-winning goal scorer, spoke to the crowds about the bittersweetness of finding out her dad died after the World Cup final match.

"I am honestly so proud to bring such happiness to the country and now you all have the star (for winning the World Cup) that you all longed for. Not just the one we are wearing on our chest but all the stars in the sky who have been there for us."
