SpaceX landed its Starship SN10 prototype for the first time on Wednesday after carrying out a high altitude test flight in Boca Chica, Texas, though the rocket blew up minutes later on the landing pad.
The aerospace company had cut off the feed prior to the explosion.
The rocket completed a number of complex manoeuvre in mid-air before returning to earth, marking a major milestone in billionaire founder Elon Musk’s quest to build a reusable rocket system.
A previous launch attempt Wednesday afternoon was aborted because of a concern over “a slightly conservative high thrust limit.”
