SpaceX's Starship system is expected to play an important role in NASA’s plan to return astronauts to the moon. Today's targeted launch window opens at 1300 BST

SpaceX is aiming to launch its next-generation Starship megarocket on a fourth test flight this morning. The company says it is on track for an 1350 BST liftoff

If all goes according to plan, the nearly 400-foot-tall rocket will lift off from SpaceX's Starbase test site in Boca Chica, Texas.

On this flight, Starship will attempt to reach orbit and then safely return to Earth, with a targeted splashdown in the Indian Ocean

SpaceX is also hoping to show that the rocket's first stage, known as Super Heavy, can similarly return to Earth in a safe and controlled way, with a planned "soft splashdown" in the Gulf of Mexico
