Somalia's parliament has approved measures to change parts of its provisional constitution and overhaul the electoral system.

They grant the president power to appoint and dismiss the prime minister - rather than the parliament.
Somalia has an indirect electoral system based on clans.
The decision has angered politicians in the state of Puntland, who say they will no longer recognise the federal government.

Matt Bryden from Sahan Research says regional authorities were angry they had not been consulted on the changes.
