Solomon Islands rejects ‘inappropriate’ Australian election offer

The Solomon Islands' leadership has rejected Australia's proposal to finance the 2023 elections which Prime Minster Manasseh Sogavare is trying to postpone. Critics say his move to amend the constitution to delay the polls amounts to a power grab. The government has accused Canberra of wanting to influence its geopolitical affairs even as the Solomon Islands becomes increasingly closer to China.
