Silvio Berlusconi, the boastful billionaire media mogul who was Italy's longest-serving prime minister, has died at the age of 86.

His Forza Italia political party was a coalition partner with current Premier Giorgia Meloni, a far-right leader who came to power last year, although he held no position in the government.

Berlusconi's prime ministership was riddled with scandals over allegations of corruption and his sex-fuelled parties, infamously known as the Bunga Bunga parties.

In 2011, even as some Italians were saying they've had enough, staunch believers insisted Berlusconi did nothing wrong.
