The appointment of Lord Cameron as foreign secretary has coincided with a marked change in the government's position towards Israel's war on Hamas, a former minister has told Sky News.

Alistair Burt, former minister of state for the Middle East and North Africa, told Sophy Ridge there was a realisation that Israel's war aims "were simply not deliverable" and there was a worry the killing of thousands of Gazans would trigger further turmoil in the Middle East.
