Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said at a Wednesday news conference that he believed "biological males" have no place in women's sports or female change rooms.

He was asked about his position on whether transgender women should be allowed in spaces that are labeled for women and whether he would introduce any legislation to stop it. Poilievre replied saying he believes "female spaces should be exclusively for females, not for biological males."

Speaking from Edmonton later in the day, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded by attacking Poilievre for his comments, accusing the Opposition Leader of driving political wedges and sowing division rather than focusing on offering "concrete solutions” for issues facing Canadians. “Shame on them,” Trudeau said.

Earlier this month, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's controversial plan to prevent those under the age of 18 from accessing gender-related therapies, such as hormones and puberty blockers, sparked heated debates and protests across the country.
