San Diego declared a state of emergency on Monday after a powerful winter storm unleashed intense rainfall and flash floods upon the Californian city.
The extreme weather resulted in the flooding of roadways and rising rivers and is blamed for several car crashes throughout the region. In addition, approximately 5,000 homes were left without power.
In response to the destruction and generally unsafe conditions, schools were closed and officials have issued a warning for all motorists to stay at their homes, unless necessary.
The storm serves as the third to hit the Pacific west coast since Friday.
