Brendan Clarke-Smith who resigned as Tory party deputy chairman this week to vote for rebel amendments on Rwanda has explained why he voted for the bill despite being unhappy with it.

He said that "throwing the baby out with the bath water and taking the whole bill down" was something "a lot of us didn't want to do".

"I'll be very, very happy if I'm proved wrong and this bill goes through when we do get those planes off the tarmac," he added.
