Netherlands has become the most recent country to join an allied military coalition that will supply Ukraine with advanced drone technology to “scale up” munitions in its ongoing war with Russia, according to Dutch Defence Minister Kasja Ollongren.

“The war in Ukraine is such an … important war, because it's an existential threat to Ukraine — but it could potentially also be an existential threat to Europe. That's why we have to continue to support Ukraine,” Ollongren said during an interview on Wednesday.

Drones have become a cost-effective, critical tactic in war, specifically for reconnaissance and striking targets — and have been utilized massively by Ukraine and Russia in the last two years.

In addition to a pledge for drones, Netherlands has promised F-16 fighter jets, artillery and air defence. Among several other allied nations, the U.K. has joined the Ukrainian drone coalition recently, too.
