Russian investigators revealed that genetic tests confirmed that Yevgeny Prigozhin, chief of the Wagner mercenary group, was among the 10 people killed in a plane crash in Russia on Wednesday.

Russia's aviation agency previously published the names of all passengers aboard the private jet, including Prigozhin and his right-hand man, Dmitry Utkin.

Uncertainty about their colleagues’ whereabouts has loomed over Russia's Wagner Group since the suspicious plane crash took place in the Tver region, northwest of Moscow.

The incident occurred two months after the group led a mutiny challenging Russian President Vladimir Putin's authority — who has denied being responsible for the crash, despite many believing him to be the culprit.

What exactly brought the plane down remains a mystery, but American officials say they're looking at a number of theories — including sabotage.
