Though probably more attuned to a rocket launch countdown than a New Year’s Eve one, Russia’s cosmonauts are always keen to welcome in the new year in style…

The pair beamed down their well wishes – dubbed here – from the International Space Station (ISS), floating a microphone back and forth between them to spread some New Year cheer.

Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov were decked out in Santa hats against the backdrop of an unusually festive-looking ISS to send their intergalactic greeting.
