Rome's Trevi Fountain has been turned black by climate protesters

Climate activists from Ultima Generazione poured vegetable charcoal into Rome's Trevi Fountain to protest against government subsidies of fossil fuel. 300,000 litres of water will now have to be "thrown away" as part of the clean-up, according to the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.
