Indigenous man Rodney Levi of the Metepenagiag First Nation was shot to death by New Brunswick RCMP in June 2020. Levi, who was struggling with addiction and mental illness, was killed after approaching officers with two kitchen knives in an agitated state.
A coroner inquest has now made over a dozen recommendations to the Mounties, including calls for more self-policing in Indigenous communities.
As Ross Lord reports, they hope to prevent similar incidents after what's become a string of fatal encounters across Canada.
