Walter Mondale, who reshaped the vice presidency under Carter and lost the presidency in a landslide to Ronald Reagan in 1984, died Monday at 93 years old. Mondale was known as a kind, gentle force in Minnesota politics, and once quipped that his proudest achievement was never losing an election in his home state.
