Fans of the grunge genre from across the globe descended upon Seattle this week to celebrate the legacy of late Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain – who is considered one of the most prolific songwriters of the 20th century.
The beloved musician and ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ songwriter unexpectedly took his own life 30 years ago, on April 5, 1994, just seven years after Nirvana formed, and only a couple after their commercial breakthrough album, the sophomore 'Nevermind.'
"I believe it was too much for [Cobain] once he… got there,” acclaimed grunge era photographer Charles Peterson said on Tuesday. “I don't think he knew how to deal with it. I don't think any of us really would of honestly, or at least I wouldn't have,” he added.
“When I was in my early twenties and I was confused about life and what I wanted out of it, a lot of that resonated with me,” Kelowna-based Nirvana fan Brad Graham said while visiting Cobain’s Seattle grave. “A lot of the frustration in the music, that resonated with me a lot."
