'Release him': US Ambassador says charges against reporter are 'baseless'

US ambassador to Russia, Lynne Tracy, has spoken outside a Russian court where Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich's appeal to be allowed out of prison before trial was rejected.

Ms Tracy said he had been "wrongfully detained" and "the charges against Evan are baseless and we call on the Russian Federation to immediately release him".
