The Biden administration was set to end a border policy called 'Title 42' on Monday, but a US district judge blocked plans to lift the policy last Friday. The COVID-linked measure has allowed U.S. border authorities to carry out nearly 2 million deportations since March of 2020.
While conservative politicians like Texas Governor Greg Abbott have backed the extension of Title 42 as a way to curb immigration to the United States, human rights advocates say the measure is eroding US asylum laws and harming tens of thousands of asylum seekers.
