Red rivers run through Indonesian village as flood hits batik-manufacturing hub

A blood-red river inundated an Indonesian village on Saturday after flooding hit a nearby batik manufacturer.

Villagers were seen walking through the red water, as some complained about the inconvenience it caused.

“Yeah, now I start to feel itchy and this is troublesome for us to go about our daily activities, said Wahyu Hidayat, a local resident.

Pekalongan is known for manufacturing batik, a traditional method of dyeing fabric that uses wax to repel water-based dies in order to create patterns.

It is not uncommon for rivers in Pekalongan to turn different colours. Bright green water covered another village north of the city during a flood last month.
