The gut's microbiome is an integral part of maintaining a healthy, happy life. And after a summer of eating, drinking and indulging more than usual, the best way to keep your gut happy and healthy is a high-fibre, plant-rich diet.
As Andrea Hardy, a registered dietitian, explains to The Morning Show hosts Jeff McArthur and Carolyn MacKenzie, the microbes in the gut produce beneficial compounds when they digest fibre -- so getting enough of it in your diet is key to good gut health.
Hardy also touches on the role of probiotics in improving gut health and managing symptoms of Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). She says consistency is most important when taking probiotics, and adds that it can take time to see benefits.
