In Canada, Sept. 19 has been declared a federal holiday and national day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II following Her Majesty’s passing. However, there has been a lot of confusion about who’s actually going to get the day off or extra pay for working. Federal employees, or federal servants who work for the federal government, will — But for everyone else, it will depend on what province you’re in or what your employer decides.

For parents, the biggest issue might be that schools are closed when they have to keep working while business owners are scrambling after the short notice that was given with just a few days. In trying to strike a delicate balance, banks have said that they will honour the late monarch with a moment of silence while staying open to keep the economy going.
